Malta Hostels

Malta has a little bit of everything, and pointing towards a single center to stay in would be tricky. There is the shopping-oriented tourist town of Sliema, the small capital city of Valletta, the largest city on the island, Birkirkara and the smaller islands of Gozo and Comino. Spread throughout these spots (and many more) are many variations of things to do: from snorkeling, to bike riding, from museums to archaeological sites, Malta has it all. Thankfully it is fairly easy to get around on the island, otherwise it would be increasingly difficult for anyone to suggest a place to stay in this most diverse of European destinations.

The capital city of Valletta is a popular harbor for cruise ships, most of which dock at the Valletta waterfront. Not too far from the Valletta waterfront, in Gzira, you will find Campus Residence and Hostel where you can find one of the cheapest beds on the island for around $21. Along with the renovated ancient shops of the Valletta waterfront, the shopping areas of Sliema and the nightlife center of St. Julians are both easily accessible from Gzira. The Hostel itself has an enthusiastic and lively staff to help you with navigating the island so that you will get the most out of the exciting opportunities that await you there.

Between St. Julians and Sliema is Hibernia Residence and Hostel that offers beds in dorms for close to $16. The Hibernia is geared towards those energetic travelers who love to learn about new cultures, bringing them all together in its common rooms and rooftop terrace that looks out over the Mediterranean. The Hibernia is well located and facilitates the easy exploration of St. Julians and Sliema by foot or by bus and of Valletta by ferry.

For $21 you can get a room at Hostel Malti, one of the newest and most popular hostels on the island. Its motto declares the place to be "for the scruffy and happy backpacker," something that is made obvious by the effort to satisfy those who want nothing more than to enjoy a cheap beer on a picture perfect rooftop terrace with fellow adventurers as you look out over the Mediterranean. The staff is well versed in helping groups organize their trips around the island, and most guests love the tips they get.
